Hi all,

Just going through the process of setting up my HTPC, and have run in to a small problem with MediaPortal and certain videos. Now, the majority of my videos play fine. No problems with most AVI / MPG files, and h.264 content plays without any problems thanks to CoreAVC working its magic.

However, some files I am present with the following message in Media Portal.

Unable to play [video title]
Video Codec: XVID
Audio Codec: AC-3

These videos play fine in an external player though, such as MPC, VLC, or the player application that came preinstalled on the PC: "TotalMedia Theatre 3"

I've attempted to change settings of the video codecs in Codecs and Renderer, but to no avail. They are currently:

MPEG2 Video - Gabest
H.264 - CoreAVC
MPEG / AC3 Audio: AC3Filter
AAC: Monogram AAC
Audio Renderer: Default DirectSound

Does anybody have any idea what I can do to sort this out? Googling only gave me really old threads or solutions that were supposedly fixed in previous versions. Thanks for your time and assistance!

using MPC and VLC is not a test because both those apps use internal "codecs" to playback content which is unlike mediaportal, zoomplayer etc

an easy solution, uninstall/cleanup all your codecs, download the "SAF codec pack" from this forum, its easy to install and works well with MP.

    dear mastyman,
i already tried ffdshow with the SAF setup and codec pack...
but in the end setup of ffdshow was difficult to optimize (standard settings produced lower quality and pimping meant freezing)
ac3filter was the best i could handle -
    question is -
the non-standard profiles of avi and mkv having AC3 audiostream will really never be playable without ffdshow?
then i would surrender to fiddle about ffdshow again...
    ;-)
