    Hello all,

    I'm facing a really odd behaviour and I would need some ideas in which to investigate.

    The issue: I'm playing back a movie (mpg file recorded from DVB-S and freed from commercials via ProjectX and Mpeg2Schnitt). At a certain point in time (~5:30 from start) the movie skips forward several minutes. This is reproducible, it always happens at the same position.

    The oddities:
    • I play back the same file with WinDVD7 and it plays fine, without the skip.
    • I copy the file to another PC with the same MP version - it skips at the same position.
    • I demux the mpg (ProjectX, gives no warnings about problematic frmaes) and mux it (ImagoMPEG-Muxer) and play it again with MP - it still skips
    • Other movies which have been reacorded and treated in the same way behave normal. I discover new 'problematic' movies every now and then but see no correlation between them.
    • I don't use comskip and don't have set the option to automatically skip commercials.
    • I look into the logiles and get no real clue:

    Code:
    2008-09-28 22:09:20.156250 [Info.][3]: planescene: PresentSurface() frame:0 enabled:True allowed:False 720x576
    2008-09-28 22:09:20.187500 [Info.][3]: planescene: PresentSurface() frame:1 enabled:True allowed:False 720x576
    2008-09-28 22:09:20.187500 [Debug][MPMain]: VMR9: Repainting -> Playing, Frames: 2
    2008-09-28 22:09:40.859375 [Debug][3]: Planescene.InternalPresentSurface: timePassed = 0,53125 - dropped 1 frame(s)
    2008-09-28 22:09:41.812500 [Debug][3]: Planescene.InternalPresentSurface: timePassed = 0,78125 - dropped 1 frame(s)
    2008-09-28 22:09:46.125000 [Debug][MPMain]: VMR9: SetRepaint()
    2008-09-28 22:09:46.125000 [Debug][MPMain]: VMR9: SetRepaint()

    Does anybody have an idea how to encircle this problem?

    regards from Stuttgart

    Does this happen if above not used, sounds like a corruption in the file which WinDVD can get around, possibly some transmission problem with the data, know whenever i see Sky transmissions they can be adversely effected by rain\wind, otherwise great signal.

    Hi,

    this is indeed an idea, I will go after it. Unfortunately I will need to record some new movies, because I deleted the 'raw' recordings after cutting out the commercials.

    Does anybody know of a tool to analyze an mpg file for such errors? My search on videohelp.com didn't find anything for mpeg files.

    regards from Stuttgart

    Hello all,

    I encircled my problem - it was the muxing step. :mad:

    After cutting recordings with Mpeg2Schnitt I have to multiplex together the .mpv and .mp2 file. Until now I used a small command line tool called mplex1. When I use the MPEG tools of TMPGenc instead, the unwanted skips disappear.

    My solution will now be to find a command line substitue for the mplex1, I assume this will be not too difficult. And I have the good feeling that I should be able to 'repair' all affected recordings.

    What I don't understand is:
    - why didn't I have this problem some months ago. Something seems to have changed in MP that it now is more selective.
    - why this happens only with recordings which were recorded on my 'old' media center PC, using an Hauppauge Nexus-S with its native TV software. Recordings done on my actual system don't have this problem.

    This is just to inform You - and maybe some day somebody will search through it and find this solution. :)

    kind regards from Stuttgart

    hi.

    i have the same problem. (with old and new recordings from different dvbc cards)

    in powerdvd 7 and 8 playback is fine.

    in all other programms e.g. mediaportal 1rc2, mplayer, ... , also in my recent dvbc software from terratec, playback in different files skip always at the same position for some seconds, on other positions some minutes (always forward)

    playing the source files (.ts) -> no skipping

    i use pvastrumento to demux ts files and then cuttermaran for cutting and multiplexing. cuttermaran also uses the "mplex" tool for multiplexing.

    using other software is not the answer for my problem, because too many files would need reconstruct.

    i have read that maybe the problem has something to do with the windows mpeg demultiplexer?

    powerdvd7+8 play the files well, so it should be possible to get the right playback also in other programs.

    thank your for your help!
