Area: Media Portal Program
MP Version: .2 RC4 (Latest?)
Skin: MCE
Windows Version: MCE (All updates)
CPU Type: Intel P4 2.8
Memory: 1gig DDR
Motherboard Chipset: Intel 82801
Video Card: ATI Radeon 7000
Video Card Driver: 6.14.10.6462
Video Card Resolution: 1280x720
Video Render Type: Hell if I know
Video Codec Type & Version: Hell if I know
Audio Codec Type & Version: Hell if I know
TV Card: N/A
TV Card Type: N/A
TV Card Driver: N/A

Synopsis: I have what I thought would be a simple setup but ... I guess not. I am forced to use a Radeon 7000 because the built in video (82865G) doesn't support 1280x720. I realize that MediaPortal does some weird DX thing to display video and that I am supposed to have a newer video card for it to display everything. That is fine, I want to use VLC to display the video as it plays everything with out a fit.

However, before I can get VLC to play anything or even to get MediaPortal to try to play anything, I have to view my files. I have my Movies and TV shows sorted by folders that are shared across the network. So Z:\Showname\Season X\Episode.avi (or) W:\Movie Name\Movie.avi (or) W:\Movie\Movie.pls (for Movie1.avi, movie2.avi, etc) .

I added the shared network folders to 'my movies' and when I try to browse the folders, nothing shows up? So, how do I get these files to show up in the first place? And then from there, anything special to get VLC to work to play back the videos?

Have you tried mapping the netwerk drives and adding them.

Thank you for your reply. I really want to get this working.

Yes, I have mapped the network drives. \\otherpc\movies is X:\ and I added X:\

Have you tried not mapping them, ie just wack \\<computername>\movies\ into MP shares?

This worked, thank you.

Any tips on how to get VLC to work with this since my video card isn't cool enough for media portal?

Play Video Stream using VLC

A friend is streaming the world cup on to the network. I can view it when i open VLC and go to open network stream and choose UDP/RTP multicast and entering the IP address and port. Is it possbke to view this stream using media portal, instead of open VLC and entering the ip everytime??

thanks

Zaid
