Using the Apple Remote with MP (1 Viewer)

I am used to using the MCE remote with MP, and I've had no problems with doing so...except that it's really big and clunky. And since I only use MP for photo portfolio display, which means I use only 6 buttons (up-down-left-right-esc-enter) I figured that I'd try the Apple Remote that come with my Macbook Pro (and on which I am using MP) instead. ( Apple Remote - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )

So far I have been able to intercept the left, right and play/pause buttons using AutoHotKey. But the up, down and menu buttons seem to be intercepted by the apple drivers used in bootcamp...autohotkey never even sees a record that those buttons have been pushed.

If anyone here has figured this out, or if you know of an equally small and simple remote, I'd love to hear about it.

I spent a little time on this, and investigated the driver packages used in bootcamp. One of them installs a file called IRFilter64.sys that is apparently the driver for the IR port itself, since removing it rendered all remotes inoperative.

From what I can see there doesn't seem to be a dedicated driver for the remote per se, which tells me that it's built in to something else, probably the bootcamp driver itself. I guess my only hope now is to either find a registry key that disables the remote control keypress interception, or find a switch on the driver that disables it. I think I may be screwed a little.

My research is definitely a bit data (using one of the first Intel mac minis), but my findings were the same: I couldn't get Windows to see the IR Sensor. The Apple remote worked for a few commands, but not all, and I couldn't use the IR receiver with a different remote. Definitely some type of weird filtering they are doing for the IR receiver. I think you're out of luck.

It's like they don't want you able to really use Windows on a Mac....

I've found that the windows mce remote doesn't work without using the windows remote receiver too. But I have that, so I'm not too broken up about that part. Sure would be nice to disable the default stuff with the apple remote though.
