Using VGA cable and 3.5 audio jacks through get a buzzing (1 Viewer)

hello there,

finally got the programme set up lovely thanks. I am plugging my lap top into my samsung led tv via vga (good picture. I am having to use 3.5mm jack leads to go from the earphone port into the 3.5 jack lead port into my tv for sound. However when I plug in the jack lead i get a back ground buzzing noise through my tv. I have tried plugging my headphones into my laptop and there is no background buzzing.

The noise is annoying. Any suggestions on how to resolve this

maybe the output from the HTPC is to high...
We have an older musicbox with mic in (it don't have an aux in oo) and you have to tune the mixer of the PC really low (the lowest you get) and have to turn the volume on the receiver up, otherwise I get the same as you described^^

Conversely, it output could be too low and the amp in the TV is trying hard to pull the volume up, so low level mains hum on the line is being amplified too - the low frequency would be far less noticeable on headphones.

Suggest you try setting TV volume mid way, pick a short bit of film or music with good dynamic range and loop it, changing PC volume from low -> high.

If hum persists, could be your lead, poor shielding (used to use similar from PC to AMP, made own cables, so paying attention to shielding is a must allowing it to pick up mains, also look at routing of cable, it's not close to or even crossing a mains cable at some point?
