Very High CPU Usage with Frontend (1 Viewer)

When I start the Media Portal Front end my CPU is running at 90 to 100 percent just showing the main screen. Using the TV playback is slow and the video is jerky. I tried this with both the Radeon 9000 and an Nvidia card with equivalent results. I believe that all the drivers are the latest version. What would be causing this slowness. Outside of media portal my CPU idles around 0%.
