so maybe it´s really time to consider a clear new installation if you like the idea or not. First you could make an image of your current OS partition (with a bootable CD, image 1) so you can play it back anytime you need. Install clean Windows with latest SP, make an Image of this again (image 2). Play with MP-Installation, codecs etc. If works, good. If not, you can start again from scratch (copy image 2 back) or copy image 1 back. This approach takes much less time then what you have already spent with your tests. But still few hours... I know this is no real cure to your problem but my setup works as it should: Vista 32bit, EVR renderer, Haali splitter (with avi support), PowerDVD7 (user as mpg2 and h.264 codec both with DXVA), ffdshow (for the rest like divX, xvid and as audio codec), for apple trailers Quicktime and MediaLooks QuickTime DirectShow filter. I used AC3Filter also, Reclock aswell (pal speedup of 24fps films), but this is optional. Nothing else (no vobsub but MPC subtitle engine). btw the low merit splitter is maybe an internat splitter of media player classic, not registered in the system at all. That´s why you don´t find it anywhere else. Kossu said that he uses only 3 codecs, said nothing about directshow filters or number of installed codecs. He has also more, like you.
