Video isn't smooth WinTV 1290 composite (1 Viewer)

I have my cable box hooked up to my Hauppage WinTV HVR 1290 through composite and the video isn't smooth. It's a bit stuttering and can pause very briefly. I'm using MediaPortal 1.2.3 and the encoder is MainConcept (Hauppauge) MPEG video encoder, and the decoder I use is FFDSHOW. I've tried other encoders like ATI and Intervideo but MainConcept seems to be the smoothest so far, but not smooth enough.

Is there anyway to make this smoother?

Please add system info and logs. First thought it weak system + software decoder, second is refresh rate....

Another thought: make sure the frame rate for the tuner is set correctly.

29.97 fps for NTSC countries
25 fps for PAL countries

Some encoders have frame rate settings that need to be adjusted to match the source frame rate. You can do this using GraphEdit/GraphStudio to access the filter property page.

Here's the logs for a few seconds. BTW I do have it set for 29.97 fps. I will try and see if I can adjust the encoder with GraphEdit/Graphstudio.
