video playback is only a black screen (1 Viewer)

first of all, english is not my native language, so you've been warned ;-)

i installed mediportal and it looks like a nice peace of software. i luv it.
well, till the point i am trying to playback a video.
it plays something back, but everything you see is a black flickering screen with the media portal screen in the background. ok, sound is running too, but nothing that you could consider a movie.
without mediaportal i can play the same movies on wmp11 with no problems.
soooo, does anybody have a clue how to start with this problem?

My Installation:
Windows XP SP3 (freshly installed)
MediaPortal v1.0 RC3
Combined Community Codec Pack
Windows Media Player 11

i deinstalled my codec pack and installed the saf.
no change.
but i noticed i haven't installed the original ati drivers. the windows is so to say brand new and everything worked fine so i forgot.
after installing ati drivers 8.5, yes not the latest package, it worked fine.

so the problem is solved just with the original ati drivers.
