Vista & Win 8 Combination problems (1 Viewer)

Hi, I'm new here so please be gentle!! I know I may have posted this in the wrong place so appologise in advance if I have. I have a fairly comprehensive Media Centre network that has run for well for the past 7 years but want full HD streaming live tv and so have chosen media portal as the new platform. I'm currently building a media portal network where I have a Win 8.1 32bit client running MP 1.5.0 and a Vista 32bit TVserver, unfortunately each time the client boots into MP it hangs just before fully loading. If I point the client to my other Win 7 64bit tvserver it works fine.

I'm in the process of making the vista machine a dedicated tvserver located in the loft and will probably instal Win 8 on it but am still in the process of setting up the intial client before buying further clients and new server hardware.

Do I have to have the server on Win7/8 for it to work with a win 8 client?

Any help would be great
