I would really like a VPS decoder for recording.
I'm not sure if this is possible (do TV-Cards support VPS decoding?), but it would be definitely a great feature.

BTW: Even the crappiest VCR can do it, so it should be a clarity for MP
:)

Here in germany some stations send out a signal called VPS. Video Programming System. Its a short info when a program starts and ends. Decoding this signal, VCRs can record exactly when the program is starting and ending, even if its delayed for some minutes.
Im not sure in witch other countries VPS is used.

And yes, TV-Cards can receive VPS data.
For example MoreTV can show this data.

Im not sure, if its can be received by a PVR card. But software cards can do.

    would be great if you guys could find some sourcecode for us......

    The more info you give, the more chance you got to get it implemented.

    Maybe asking Tom Zoerner might be a good idea. He's the guy who wrote the fabulous nxtvepg (http://nxtvepg.sourceforge.net/). I think he knows a lot about slicing bits from the analog video signal and probably about VPS code as well.

    I will send him a note about this. Hope he's got time/the mood to get involved. :)

    and this:

    <snip>
    Technik - kurz und bündig
    Das VPS-Signal wird - wie bereits erwähnt - in der vertikalen Austastlücke des Fernsehbildes auf Datenzeile 16 übertragen. Mit einer Datenrate von 2,5 Mbit/Sekunde sind 32 Bit für das VPS-Signal reserviert.
    Im einzelnen:

    2 Bit - Identifikation des Adressbereiches
    5 Bit - angekündigter Sendetag
    4 Bit - angekündigter Sendemonat
    5 Bit - angekündigter Beitragsbeginn, Stunde
    6 Bit - angekündigter Beitragsbeginn, Minute
    4 Bit - Nationalitätencode
    6 Bit - Programmquellencode (Sendercode)
    </snip>

    Vps -> Dvb-c/s/t

    Hi!
    VPS is not sending over DVB but DVB have a runnin flag.
    When a movie starts the running flag will show this.
    More details you can find in the C'T Magazine 07/2007.
    There is a great story about the VPS programming for DVB.
