Hi some time ago I managed to make this Filter to load in MP, I like this filter over the ffdshow one, because the font height is constant and not dependant from the video resolution like when you use ffdshow subtitles. You can use the remote to change and disable the subtitle when you manage to make DirectVobSub to load.

Yesterday I changed my CPU from a AMD 3500+ to a AMD 4200+ now using 2 core to help decode those x264 720p... Then I installed the dualcore drivers for my new CPU I installed the Dual core optimizer and then rebooted, I went to listen to a mkv file with external subtitles and no subtitles, DirectVobSub doesn't load. Then I try from Windows Media Player and the filter load correctly, I check the configuration in MP and subtitles are checked in My Movie configuration.

Strange thing though, when I listen to an avi with external subtitles in MP it's working, the problem only occur when I play mkv files.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled every codec that I have and nothing. Here is the codec list I have installed:
- Haali Media Splitter
- ffdshow-tryout
- DirectVobSub 2.37

I have other codecs, but these are the one that are involved.

I have checked the option in Haali Splitter to auto load subtitles, nothing is working. Again, it's working just great in Windows Media Player 11. It seem the MP just forget to load vsfilter when I load a mkv file.

MyMovie configuration call ffdshow for h264. I managed to make it work using ffdshow-raw, but I have to install an old version of ffdshow because new one doesn't seem to include the ffdshow-raw. To make it work with raw video codec I have added DirectVobSub (auto loading) in the post processing. Now the menu in MP and everything is working, but I would like to make it work without forcing the postprocessing, since I'd like to install the new version of ffdshow tryout.

Does anyone have an idea what happend, it was working and now it's not, not like before at least...

You need to add directvobsub to the post processing list for external subs to work. The auto one doesn't seem to get added to the graph for some reason.

Do you enabled it in VSFilter too?
I am do not use directvobsub in MP post processing.

    Tip:
Use "Double if smler than" for best looking subtitles, insert 1/2 of your resolution (640*360 for 1280*720)

If you want external subs in mediaportal you ned to add vsfilter to the post processing section. Check the graph otherwise, you will notice that vsfilter does not load regardless of wether you have haali set to autoload.

I tried both DirectVobSub and DirectVobSub (Autoloaded) as post processing filters and still no subtitles when playing MKV
The only way how I can get subtitles working on MKV's is by turning them on in ffdshow?!What can be wrong?

Put subtitles inside MKVs is best solution. It is fast using MKVToolnix - mkvtoolnix -- Matroska tools for Linux/Unix and Windows

Even when I have the subtitles inside the MKV file, it still won't display in MediaPortal. Again, with VLC I don't have any problems, but with MP it doesn't work (anymore). I tried the DirectVobSub filters in MP configuration but no change at all?!

external subtitles in avi - WORKS (vsfilter loads)
embedded subtitle in mkv - WORKS (vsfilter loads)
external subtitles in mkv - DONT work (vsfilter does not load at all..)
embedded + external in mkv - partially works (vsfilter loads, but only external sub shows)

What the f'ck do i need to do to get the .srt files to work with mkv :)

I realy dont want to mux 200+ tvepisodes and 50+ movies :(

Hmm, i somehow managed to get external subtitles to work, but now i cant play .mkv files that has embedded subs.. flashing screen then nothing happens, error logs just say "cant play file"

    any ides?
