I've a technical question about how a Computer can be waked up from hibernation by itself (other than manually set an alarm time or with WOL).
What exactly does a plugin like PowerScheduler to make this happen..? What are the technical background etc. (something with ACPI I guess?).

    Hi Spooky,

yes, it has to do with ACPI.
A PC can be in S3 (Standby) or S4 (Hibernate).
.NET programs may use something like a WaitableTimer.
This is what Powerscheduler is doing, to set a specific time, when the pc should come up again.

    regards,

    Helmut

WOL doesn't work with my htpc when it is in hibernation. Is it possible that I can change that with a bios setting or something else?

hwahrmann: ok, but where exactly is powerscheduler setting the wakeup time? Is it some part of the BIOS, which is writeable from out the OS or something?

tklon: hm... I think my HTPC wakes up with WOL even in hibernation, but I am not sure though. I wouldn't know any BIOS setting for that anyway.

Hi Spooky, could you please test that and post your result here. Thank you.

    hi tklon,

even with my PC completely shutdown, i can do a WOL.
Don't need to be in hibernate or standby for that.
if your BIOS and NIC support WOL you should be able to turn on the pc without any problems.

    regards,

    Helmut

Well, look at that... completely forgot. Anyway, you were right, I can't wakeup the HTPC from hibernation with WOL.
