    Hi,

Is it possible to have a recorded TV programme processed for commercial detection by DVRMSToolbox (using Comskip) -not actually have the ads cut out; just processed to skip- then be able to playback the file on another HTPC with DVRMSToolbox installed & have that secondary programme read the skip marks on the media file.

This is possible on MCE2005. How about on MP?

Do a search for Comskip on the forums. There's plenty of talk about this.

Short answer, yes. If there is a .txt file in the same folder as the video, with the same file name then it will be used for commercial skipping.

    Thanks for the answer, however,

Do a search for Comskip on the forums.
I spent some two hours + searching various threads for info ON Comskip useage across a local network with no real success. They talked about it vaguely in passing but no actual how-to setup this option.

The search parameters included, but not restricted to:
    -Comskip LAN network
    -Comskip network
    -Comskip shared folders

There's plenty of talk about this
I would be greatly appreciative if you could link some specific threads on how to configure MP to playback operational DVR-MS (preferably) or MPG media files using Comskip one-button or auto-skip facilities over a LAN, as my search abilities are obviously, sadly lacking.

Well, as I said above, if there is a corresponding .txt file in the same folder then MediaPortal will use it for commercial skipping, no matter what the format of the video (dvr-ms, mpeg, avi, it doesn't matter).

However, this means that for network playback you'd need to have a shared folder, not just through the MediaPortal database to the TV server for example.

The existing threads on ComSkip discuss the playback mechanics in detail, for example, you may want to set up a remote button map for the chapter forward, chapter back actions, or just use the context menu.

Refer to these threads for more information:

Sorry, I should have listed these earlier instead of sending you on a wild goose chase ...

My main advice would be to just give it a try and see how it goes.

    Hope that helps,

That's awesome. (jaw-dropping @ the threads' quality; not the fact you replied in such a complete manner). Thanks very much.

    :D
