This seems like a pretty obvious question, but I don't see it addressed in the FAQ, documentation, or forums anywhere.

Edit: Well, I see this:
http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/UpdateingMediaPortal
But that makes it sound like I lose pretty much everything stored in the .db3 files. This is the most time consuming part of the setup, setting up channels, guides, and a movie database. /Edit

I am currently running 2.0.4. It is configured the way I like it, but I'd like to keep current and upgrade to 2.2.0 now that is is marked stable. How do I upgrade? What do I loose, and what do I keep? Do I install over the top, or remove it all install 2.2.0 clean and copy some config files back over.

Specifically, the move database is a pain to set up, and I want to make sure I don't loose it.

Thanks for any suggestions.

    Installing 2.2.0

I just updated to the latest version 2.2.0 (which is great!)

I backed up my databases and copied them into the new version and it worked perfectly.

There are not many skins for 2.2.0 yet. Hopefully they will come soon!

    Hi,
The best is to do a clean install & configure everything again, you'll then have a nice fresh install without possible "old" bugs related to db changes etc. I know thats not the easiest but gives the best results, here it takes about 1 hour to set it up as I want + the time scan for music which depends on your music collection size.
The other way it's to uninstall old MP version & don't delete the MediaPortal folder, then install MP 0.2.2.0. You'll have all your old settings, but don't complain/post about bugs before you have tested a fresh install ;)

    Regards

Thank you, that worked great. All my settings were saved.

Since i didn't do a fresh install should i now expect bugs? I never really got any in 2.1.0 anyway. Just making sure. thanks.

I just upgraded to MP .22 by just removing my original MP .2 +SVN and then installing over the top of the existing folder.

    All works well (so far).

Basically, if you do this and find problems, then you are better off doing a clean install but this is good as a fast upgrade.

    Thank you for the reply.

What exactly does SVN mean though? I see it everywhere on this site. Do I need to install it as well? I read that I'm not supposed to install a SVN on top of a stable version of MP and I have 2.2.0 installed, but i have no idea what that means. Am I missing out on something?

    thank you

SVN = Subversion it is a version control system.

Not unless you want to get involved in the development of code.

This statement, I think was referring to 2.1.0 which was a feature release and was not used as the basis for development. 2.2.0 can be used as the basis for SVN builds. Have a looks at the WIKI http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/UserGuides

    Thanks!

Thanks for the pointers. I will give it a try next weekend.

Sounds like this version didn't have a database change. Any thoughts on having a migration tool for future releases that may have database changes? Music is easy enough to scan, but movies are a lot tougher by the time you include setting up stacks, setting images, downloading the right title from IMDB, etc.
