    Hi Gixxer,

Both TV2E and TV3E are the parts of MP that allow you to view TV. TV2 is the built-in (older) version. TV3E is the standalone version (and newer) that will allow you to run one machine as TV server and several clients on the network as "viewers".

I've used both and there are pro's and con's with both of them. Right now I use TV3E because it allowsme to watch h264-compressed channels (HDTV). It has also become much more stable (remember it is in beta) in the last couple of months.

The setup is similar but TV3E require a little more work since you need to have MS SQL Server installed as well.

    Hope this helps!

    /Peter

TV3E also allows the use on one machine to be "server" and "client" all the apps can be installed onto one computer.

ok , thanks for those answers, so from what i can understand the tve2 is what u are using when u go to mytv in mediaportal, right?

and when u setup the client/server tvengine3 is the tve3. so once installed tve3 you dont use mytv? or is it replaced by tve3? cause its not a separate program, right? i ask this because of what you said of "standalone versio"

    thanks everyone

Well, once you have installed TV3E (server and plugin) you still have MyTV in MP, but it will use the TV3E plugin instead to stream TV-data from TV3E server. It will look almost identical in MP, regardless if you use TV2E or TV3E.

i see, so you are replacing the MyTV function with the tve3 to have the client/server ability but everything inside works at least mostly the same

thanks for that Peter !! that was really helpfull, i understand now.

p.s. as you can see i am some months away of being able to build my own system, so some questions may sound strange, but curiosity makes me ask them. also i want to get as many information before starting

    thanks

also i want to get as many information before starting

    Alway's a good idea

absolutely true !! the "good:( " thing is that until december i will not be back home so i cant start my htpc, this leaves me a lot of time to get as much information for all the components i want. and read read and read a lot of threads from this forum to learn.

    so far things point to...

    HTPC Server/Client:
    Asus m2a vm hdmi
    hauppague t500
    microsoft remote control

rest of the components i am still researching, and even those ones i have decided may change from now to december.

i also need to get information about how to improve my antena signal as i cant get much signal where i leave, i know there are amplifiers so i have to search in this.
also want to install a satellite dish so something to research also.

thank you all for helping me !!!

all descriptions in this thread are a bit confusing and maybe even miss leading.

If you download MediaPortal 0.2.x.x then this has an TV-Engine included.
this is V2 (the 2nd version) of the inbuild TV-Engine.

Since we were not that pleased with it, frodo started to create a new one. This time as a stand alone apllication.
    Thats know as the TV-Server.
it consists out of 2 parts. The stand alone Server part and a client plugin for MediaPortal, so you can connect to the Server and watch TV.
The client plugin "replaces" the inbuild TV.Engine.
Since it is the 3rd geneartion of our TV-Engines, its also knows as TV-Engine 3 (TVE3).

    I hope that i cleared this. :)

You can be sure that was also very usefull infinityloop !! thanks for it !!!

I think its completetly clear for me know. i find that having such an explanation in the wiki section would be usefull for other people as well. maybe a "definitions" section.

Thanks for explaining it to me anyway.
