I am playing around with mediaportal and XBMC for some years now.I found good or bad points on both.
But i think what mediaportal really needs is a really GOOD remote App for iPad ( Android ).
Something u can dowload from appstore enter youre data from youre Computer and it works.
Just like
HD Remote für iPad im iTunes App Store (still a bit bugged)

or much better
XBMC Commander für iPhone, iPod touch und iPad im iTunes App Store (very stable )

there are also some free apps there are 11 Apps for ipad and much more for iphone but i choose the 2 i like the most.

those are good looking Apps for XBMC you just have to download them from appstore, enter your Comps IP, Port for xbmc and they work.
A nice graphical userintereface on the tablet with no no install this , install that (like iPimp) is there nobody in the mediaportal community capable of programming something like that? (hope not)

greetings

    There is one in development for the android plattform, for iOS we have iPiMP, which is web based.

    I am talking about a simple remote app

    NOT about a you have to install Apache and .. and .. and.. webinterface like iPimp

    A simple app that can be installed on the IPad and gives a nice clean GRAPHICAL interface.
    Look at the links in my original post.

    I know that is not a "simple nix graphical" interface, but it can grow into that.

    I have been playing aroung with making a coverflow for ipimp, but currently I have no time to do that.

    I would too love a "real" app for my Iphone/Ipad

    The XBMC one looks fantastic!

    Would most definately be willing to pay good money for it also.

    This is already discussed/requested many times before. I always hoped someone would pick up. And indeed all I want is a XBMC like ipad app. No webinterface, no bad graphics, no relentless installing of software. I guess its too soon. Maybe MP isnt ready for it yet. :(

    I use Couchpotato since 2 days and so far I just can recommend that app.
    Easy installation and easy to use.

    Funny that

    I've looked at the Android remote stuff and not liked having to install a web server either. More admin, more things to go wrong, etc.

    What I want isn't even a display on the Android - what's the point of having a big TV and viewing on a teeny, tiny [Galaxy!] screen?

    So I've been thinking about writing my own - stole the MediaPortal Remote process plugin code and changed it to use simple TCP/IP and XML string fragments. Making a process plugin like this is easy and already done - probably a bit of an overkill doing -

    <Request Key="Up" />

    But it works fine and is nice a readable in a debugger (and runs from normal Telnet too).

    I was going to extend this so events can be put in like -

    <Request Event="TV, Channel One" />

    This is a simple matter of adding to the process plugin, and all of a sudden MediaPortal is drivable by another system!

    Might even drive my HomeSeer via MediaPortal - haven't decided yet (but HomeSeer should really be driving MediaPortal perhaps).

    This is the sort of thing I think MediaPortal needs - an interface that allows for remote operation!

    I'm massively impressed by things like iPiMP - I couldn't do it, but having to have JSOP and a web server!

    (Basically I want to drive my HomeSeer from my Android phone and with [my] HomeSeer plugin (using the above scenario) it is trivial - just haven't got around to it yet.)

    Non-graphical coding is no problem, that's why I leave things like that to people who can DO it!
    So really just looking at the Android side now (finally downloaded all the requirements and thinking about how to 'make it all work' :D.)

    Just out of curiosity, what don't you like about aMPdroid excactly (If you only want remote control, all you need as backend is the plugin wifiremote).
