Funny that I've looked at the Android remote stuff and not liked having to install a web server either. More admin, more things to go wrong, etc. What I want isn't even a display on the Android - what's the point of having a big TV and viewing on a teeny, tiny [Galaxy!] screen? So I've been thinking about writing my own - stole the MediaPortal Remote process plugin code and changed it to use simple TCP/IP and XML string fragments. Making a process plugin like this is easy and already done - probably a bit of an overkill doing - <Request Key="Up" /> But it works fine and is nice a readable in a debugger (and runs from normal Telnet too). I was going to extend this so events can be put in like - <Request Event="TV, Channel One" /> This is a simple matter of adding to the process plugin, and all of a sudden MediaPortal is drivable by another system! Might even drive my HomeSeer via MediaPortal - haven't decided yet (but HomeSeer should really be driving MediaPortal perhaps). This is the sort of thing I think MediaPortal needs - an interface that allows for remote operation! I'm massively impressed by things like iPiMP - I couldn't do it, but having to have JSOP and a web server! (Basically I want to drive my HomeSeer from my Android phone and with [my] HomeSeer plugin (using the above scenario) it is trivial - just haven't got around to it yet.) Non-graphical coding is no problem, that's why I leave things like that to people who can DO it! So really just looking at the Android side now (finally downloaded all the requirements and thinking about how to 'make it all work' :D.)
