Hi,

Im wondering if there is any guidance on how much RAM and CPU is needed to run a HTPC related to the numbers of tuners in it. I'm having problems with the mk1 HTPC and am trying to work out what spec I need for the Mk2

So far - I have 2 DVB-T capture cards
1 x Hauppauge nova-t 500 dual tuner card
1 x Avermedia A16AR (this one also has SVideo in - to record from NTL Cable box)

I've added an Nvidia 6200 card and a 300GB (16MB cache, 7200rpm) disk

and for the moment the CPU is a Sepmron 2800 with 512MB ram.

The system freezes up when I enable more than one tuner - and sometime it'll just reboot without posting an error (that I can find).

OS is XP Pro, MP is 0.2.1.0 (tried 0.2.0.4 as well).

Any suggestions ? I'm wondering if there is enough HP/RAM to drive this - but can't work out any relationship to size the system correctly. At the moment I'm not sure what to change to stableise the system.

Thanks

Mark

more memory would be a good idea, although it shouldn't cause it to hang.

I would remove one of the cards and make sure you can get the one left there working fine. Then replace it with the other card, get that working, then try them both together. If it is a lack of memory of processor power, you shouldn't get hangs, just bad performance.

thanks - I'll give that a try. just changing the configuration to use one card or the other - the hauppauge one seems to be less stable, but MP hangs after about 4 days with the other card as well.

The specs of your PC are fine - you don't need anymore RAM (have a look at my specs and I run 2 x DVB-T cards easily). Have you applied the "Multi DVB Tuners Patch" ? Make sure that you read the whole thread before you start to apply the patch.

Also, take a look at the "Tips & Tricks" section - there are some useful patches and aother suggestions there, too ... :)
