What The Hell Are We To Do About TV? (1 Viewer)

It seems like TV is the weak link of Media Portal.

I see a number of posts on forums like AVS, where users who love Media Portal, are forced to abandon it for MCE or some other front-end with a working TV module.

Well, I am getting to that point too:-(

I have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to get TV to work. I have uninstalled and installed countless of times, read posts, searched, updated drivers.... So, far, it just doesn't work.

The sad part is, that there doesn't seem to focus on fixing these issues, at least from what I've seen.

For instance, I've posted my logs relating to My TV here https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/unable_create_graph_device-t32297.html. Ten days later, there is not a single view of the log file!

As to TV Server, here is a thread https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/no_video_audio_detected-t21902.html?p=213301#post213301, with close to seven and a half thousand views, with a problem tagged as a bug, where agin, the only person who seems to have looked at the logs posted and still trying to figure out the problem, is a nice guy from Germany who has been on the forum for less than three months!

What's the point of posting all these logs and describing the issues, if nobody looks at them?

So, yesterday I read about the new HD extender from Sage and downloaded the trial. Sage is has a butt-ugly, clumsy interface. But guess what? It took less than 5 minutes to set up, it found my cards, downloaded the guide and I was able to watch TV without breaking a sweat.

I am just venting. It has been a very frustrating experience.

At the same time, I am truly grateful to all who contribute, for free, to make Media Portal the best front end, IMO. If only the damned TV part worked, I'd never think of abandoning it. What's the big issue with the TV module?

I can't help you with any of that, but I thought I'd at least point out one thing. That 'Viewed X Times" counter doesn't work right. I've noticed this numerous times and I'm not really sure what causes it to register a view, but I viewed your logs and it's still at 0.

Beta? At least TVE3 is currently not even expected to work on all different environments (broadcasters, tuners, drivers, PCs, operating systems... there is just huge amount of different combinations and it will take A LOT of time to get all things / bugs / issues sorted out.).

I know that it's fustrating when something doesn't work.

We have all sunk alot of time in to building/loading/tweaking our setups. Its really the name of the game when you are helping a community test a product that is being built pro-bono/ ala carte. Sometimes the top of your (or my) list is not at the top of the programmers list. The best thing for us "testers" to do is enjoy what works and find answers for stuff that doesnt.

Don't get discouraged when a post isnt answered quickly, sometimes it takes awhile.

Actually, every time my setup is stable and finished I get bored.. So I change the skin or try a new plugin :D

I agree it sux when you spend hours and hours trying to fix something thats just not fixable, but that is to be expected with beta open source software. Stuff that works out of the box costs $, and even then theres no guarantee it will work for you. Plus all other media center apps is dwarfed by MP!

I think we both have the same disease!!

Its strange, I will have everyting running smoothly and instead of watching a movie/tv/listen to music. I open up config or mess with plugins (or new drivers). It is not so much "upgraditis" as maybe being a "tweakaholic"?!

    HA!

Heheh, I'm guilty of that too.
My setup was working great and for about a week I restrained and it worked for that whole time. Then I couldn't resist any more and started tweaking. Guess what happened???

To the OP, remember that it is close to Christmas and people are working in their free time. Theres less of that around at this time of year :)

I know, I know, Christmas is upon us and the punch is flowing:)

But this problem has been around since Spring, it seems.

I just wish someone who is working on the TV portion of MP would just chime in and tell us what's going on, and what he prognosis is.

As it is, a lot of us don't have the ability to watch any TV through MP:-( And while I have been persevering, I'd guess many have just quietly given up and moved to other front-ends.
