Just curious what the team is working on next? I've been downloading the latest SVNs every night and it looks like the biggest problem was fixing the bugs with the new animation effects. Are there other areas you guys are going to be focusing on now?

    Hi,

the two biggest things "behind the scenes":
    - TV engine version 3. See the main page for features
    - New skin engine (XAML)

    :)

does the tv engine version 3 only apply to the server version of MP, or is it used in the regular version as well?

also, whats so different about the new skin engine. What will it be doing?

    Hi,

The team has not decided yet, which way to go. But the "server version of MP" can always be run on a single PC. Currently its just a plugin, so there is no problem to go to TV engine 3 and back.

also, whats so different about the new skin engine. What will it be doing?

I am no expert about this, so push you to Wikipedia:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XAML
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Presentation_Foundation

In short, its much easier to implement nice effects. Especially with 3D, which is currenly not possible (only 2D). And it should be easier to make skins with XAML, than XML. All those effects (fade, rotate, move) that are now used by MP have to be written by the devs, in XAML this works "automatically" by the language. (Hope I am not to wrong here ;)).

    Hi Flip

Is it true that the new TV-engine is more stable and gives less problems than the build-in one?

    Regards

    Hi geov,

    it depends. ;)

Currently there are surely some bugs. Also the edges have to be rounded. But it works already very well. Very good benefits in my eyes:

    - recording to MPEG2
    - autodetecting of TV cards (no capturecards definitions any more)
    - streaming to other clients (even linux, if you use VLC)
    - etc....

Please try the new TVengine. But I personaly havent been able to get it to work yet. This has something to do with that I've had it installed, then uninstalled and installed it again (also the SQL server), as it seems. Not to discourage you, but to answer your question from my experience. I can't juge the stability obviously.

I'm realy looking forward to the new skinning engine. It will be much faster and, as far as I inderstand, will lean more on intelligent progrmamming, instead of Photoshop qualities.

    no

If you want a stable system use 0.2.0.0 + patch 0.2.0.4

But how do we get the TV-Server stable?
To achive that goal, we need as many ppl as possible to test it and report the problems.

    Hi Chris

After seeing all the new stuff and playing with them I'm hooked to the SVN's I will never go back to the stable versions. I desperately need this new TV Server (the best idea you guys have ever had), I just started building a new server with LOTS of power and I want to use it  My existing MP system just can’t take the load, it’s overheating and underpowered but it’s small and fits in nicely with my HiFi equipment so the new server needs to do the hard work in the background.

I wish there was more I could do to help you guys…. 7years back I could have coded but these days all I can do is report my findings because my programming skills are from the stone-ages.

    Keep up the good work!!!

    Cheers
    GeoV
