    Hi all!

I've just set up my first HTPC with Mediaportal and everything starts to run basically as it should. Now I wanted to get into some details in terms of codecs. I've done some research in the net and found some interesting articles about FFDShow and Graphedit.

Now i would like to know which audio and video codecs are preferrable for Mediaportal for DVD, TV and normal Videos including mkv HD Videos.
I'm running the most recent stable MP Version (no SVN build) on an ASUS HTPC with an ATI 1250X onboard with AMD X2 4400 X2 and 2 gig ram.
It's connected to an Toshiba LCD TV with D-Sub/VGA connector. (Until know i was not able to get the HDMI output running with the HDMI connector of the Toshiba).

It would be great to get your preferences regarding those settings.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

well, you will get as many recommendations as codecs are out there. So a big bunch. :)

I am using nVidia PureVideo for TV, DVD and videos (mpeg). The MPV decoder also provides a good picture, but I think the PureVideo is a bit better, especially for TV.

For all other video types I use ffdshow-tryouts. I also use ffdshow raw filter as postprocessor for TV and DVD to improve the picture quality.

Regarding the audio part, I am currently fiddling around with some codecs. There seems to be a bug in the ffdshow audio filter with a 5.1 system. After playing some media files (video, music, TV) I get no more sound. So I am currently using MPA, which works quite well. I gave nVidia a short try, but this decoder does not work with DVDs in MP. Although the graph itself plays well. So here is no real recommendation from my side.... ;)

    Just my two cents. HTH,
    Flip.
