Hello,

I am going to have a go and editing all my video files on my HTPC (I have a mixture of .wtv, dvr-ms, .ts, .mpg files at the moment).

I am going to be using Videoredo for editing/converting and would be grateful for what settings to use in respect of the codec and the container.

Most importantly, I want to be able to keep recorded subtitles.

I have heard that the best codec to use is H.264 and either .mkv or mp4 as the container.

I would be really grateful for any advice.

Thanks very much.

Personally use Handbrake for conversion, as one of the only converters thats keeps the correct aspect ratio using the "normal" setting with output changed to mkv instead of mp4.

All mpeg\ts editing done with videoredo though, to easy to use :D

So all I need to do with handbrake is take any file that I have edited the adverts out with Videoredo, import it into Handbrake, make only one change - mp4 to mkv and that is it?

Will the subtitles be automatically reserved in the new mkv file?

One other thought as an alternative - could I not convert my files into mkv files and then do the editing? E.g. are there any free kmv file editors?

I note that you favour mkv over mp4 - what are the benefits of this?an

    Thanks again for your help.
