Hi Guys,

I have looked at the websites of the list of supporteed tuners and have not found a device that fits my requirements.
I am reducing the size of my HTPC down to a nettop size that can fit behind my TV and move from windows media center to Media Portal and would therefore need a tuner that is outside my HTPC, either a USB type or a network tuner.
I would like it to have a dual DVB-S2 tuner with only one RF input as I dont have two cables from my LNB.
Does anyone know of a tuner that would suffice and is also supported by media portal?

thanks in advance,

Degsy

    Hello and welcome Degsy :)

...either a USB type or a network tuner...

I would like it to have a dual DVB-S2 tuner...
I think you're going to really struggle to find a dual USB tuner. Single USB is no problem... but dual... I've never heard of any.
I'm also not aware of any networked dual satellite tuners.

    ...with only one RF input...
You would also be extremely unlikely to find such a product. The reason is that unlike DVB-C and DVB-T/T2 tuners, each satellite tuner needs an independent connection to the LNB in order to have the capability to receive all channels. A satellite tuner will apply different voltages and signals to select different ranges of channels. If you only had one RF input then the two tuners cannot independently select any channel. The best you could do would be to buy a tuner with an RF through/out connector. That would allow you to daisy chain the connection from the first tuner to the second. The second tuner would be restricted to receiving the same "band" of channels that the first tuner is receiving. This may be enough for you depending on the satellite and channels you want to receive.

I have looked at the websites of the list of supporteed tuners and have not found a device that fits my requirements.
Keep in mind that the lists here...
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/11_Preparing_Your_System/01_Supported_TV_Cards
...are only tuners with special features. Many many other tuners will work fine. So many that we're unable to list them all.

Thank you mm for a very quick response.

I think I will need to stick a second LNB and cabling on my dish for this then. I only have an old Sky TV dish pointed at Astra 2D at 28.5 degrees east to pick up FreeSAT in the UK. I need to reroute the cabling for this dish so that would be a good time to add the second LNB if it will fit.

I have not yet bought a replacement PC yet, the ones I have been looking at dont have enough room for a PCI card which is why I have been trying to find a USB version. Looks like I will need to buy a slightly bigger PC case in order to fit at least one PCI card and add a tuner to that. I was trying to keep size to a minimum as I wanted it to be behind my tv hung on the wall but I can have it where my NAS is and use a long HDMI cable.

One thing to keep in mind is that a single tuner can allow you to view/record all channels on a transponderl. For example, you could record BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four and Cbeebies with one tuner. Transponder groupings for Freesat are shown here:

Fair enough... though a USB tuner like this...

...would you not be able to use two of them (once you have two cables from the dish)?

Yes... except as you know they're not properly supported.
But that will change in the near future :p Thanks to your great work :) (never mind, I don't want to put pressure on you, so don't get me wrong) ;)

I think you over-estimate how quickly this will happen. I expect they may be supported next year...

oh yes, I did... :) If you could still push the src for the device detection I will take a look on that myself (without the guarantee that I will get it, but better than sitting on my hands :) )

Ahhhgg, I was all excited about a quad network S2 tuner, then I find they are not supported. that is a shame, that OctopusNET would have been just the thing I need. A network tuner would be perfect as its then available to any networked device including tablets etc and not just the media portal PC.
