Hi,

I had installed a previous version of MediaPortal and it works well but I downloaded the latest version and to my surprise it tries to force me in installing Windows Media Player 11 which I do not want. I thought MediaPortal was open source and would be free of any MS obligations...?

Is there a way to install without WM11 like before?

Thanx for the info.

See ya :)

WMP11 is highly recommended and officially a requirement, so please don't report bugs when using MP on a system without it, if you should get it running.

Remember MP runs on Windows so it could not be free of MS obligations. Open Source also does not mean that it does not require any other software.

The reason for the WMP requirment is that MS in their wisdom have included a DVB update in with WMP11 for some reason.

Even if you don't use DVB, the MP team have decided that everyone should be at the same patch level to help simplify trouble shooting and support issues.

Does anyone know the last version of Media Portal that didn't require WMP 11? I Recently rebuilt an XP Media Center PC(already installed on the hard drive)to use as my HTPC and it is not able to verify windows authenticity, therefore will not let me download WMP 11.

you can download WMP 11 as a full package which extracs itself - then in it is somewhere an .exe which does not need any authentication :)

I extracted the wmp11.exe, when I clicked it appeared to go through the installation routine. When I attempted to use WMP I got an error message saying that it was the wrong version and must be reinstalled. It was enough to fool MediaPortal into thinking it had been installed properly but now I can not use Windows Media Player. This is not a big deal as I never use it, but I am unable to install the dvb hotfix patch because WMP11 is not properly installed. Any ideas?
