I too loved my xbox with xbmc until I last month when I wanted to play HD. So I thought I would set up a HTPC. I tried XBMC. It's great however it still won't play HD on my 1.6 Ghz PC. That's stupid!!! it should have enough power to play anything.

I still prefer the XBMC user interface. But, I like the config app of MP. I might switch back to XBMC if they ever get the GPU involved with the playback. Why have a videocard if you aren't gonna use it?

I saw someone mention MP on the XBMC forum. I loaded MP this weekend and it works great with full GPU acceleration. My HD stuff plays great now.

I don't care about DVR functionality.

I did get my original XBox remote working fully with MP. Thanks dude who made that plug in!

I also got daemon tools working so i can use ISO. However, it was not easy to figure out that process. I am expert with cpus but finding the info was difficult this website is kinda sucky. You guys need a wiki manual for MP.

As a noob i have some questions.

How often is MP updated? Does it have an integrated updater script in MP? Do I have to uninstall and reinstall a new version? What is the difference between MP2 and MP1? Is there definite future support for MP?

    I'll answer what I can :)

    How often is MP updated?

They release a SVN-version one time at week, but the official release is currenly RC2. Then comes RC3 and after that probably a final release.

Does it have an integrated updater script in MP?

    No

Do I have to uninstall and reinstall a new version?

You can do both. Personally I have not experienced any problems in just installing the new version on top of the old, but the recommended way is to uninstall. Your settings can be saved, however.

What is the difference between MP2 and MP1?

Well, everything, since MP2 is rewritten all over. MP2 is also not official yet, and is only a tech-demo.

Is there definite future support for MP?

That depends on the developers. Since the developers are all "normal" users of MP, I don't think it will be a problem to find deevelopers to take over if any of the current developers quits the project. Offcourse their know-how and experience is worth a lot, but that's the situation in any ongoing real-world project :)

Hmmm, that is one of the most unusual questions ever asked, will try and confirm what pilehave has said.

This project is run by a bunch of enthusiastic people, who believe in open source software, if that never dies, then cannot see any real time end to the development of MediaPortal (password in case anyone forgets).

You could take this to the n'th degree but i see no point, hopefully you agree :)

Sorry for insulting you. I was just worried. I had never heard of MP before.
