the "x" button is used to switch between "full screen viz" and the screen you are currently on.

some years ago there was a request to change the behavior to switch to "now playing" in case of no viz enabled.

but we don't keep track, where you did come from, so we can't flip between the screens.

 

you might assign a keyboard action for x on now playing, like it was suggested above.
