Hi All,

I am very intrigued by Media Portal, but was leaning more towards doing a Home Media Server running Headless from our office. Is there any way that we would still be able to use Media Portal with it installed on the Server? Essentially would it be possible to use the software remotely, possibly by using a Media Extender or something of that nature?

Thanks!

    Hi and welcome CrimsonGT :)

MediaPortal itself is Windows PC software, so you can't really use it as an extender as such. However there are plugins (like iPiMP and aMPdroid) that allow you to stream video to smartphones and tablets. The TV Server component runs as a Windows service, so you can run that on a headless server and have multiple PCs/devices connect to that to receive TV.

Thank you very much for the information. I probably need to wait until I finish getting the machine assembled tomorrow and install Media Portal to get a better idea. However, just to clarify, I am trying to figure out if the Menu that I see in all the screenshots would be accessible from the TV without it being wired to the Media Server running Media Portal?

    Hi again

To see the menu requires the TV to be connected (via HDMI cable or similar) to a PC with MediaPortal installed on it.
