I realise that most of the "My TV" development work is focussed on TVE 0.3, but while it is still in the beta phase, I would hope that TVE 0.2 continues to be refined and improved. In particular, I would like to see that the existing TVE 0.2 open bugs listed in Mantis would get resolved.

I am very willing to dive in and try to fix them myself, except that I don't have the slightest idea of where to start ... :(

Some of the bugs I am referring to have been around for a long time and are still tripping up new MediaPortal users, so it would be nice to get them "put to bed" and out of the way.

Could someone "in the know" make a statement about the future of TVE 0.2 - has it received all the development work it is ever going to receive, or will minor enhancements and existing bugs continue to be addressed ... :)

I've paid a lot of attention to the changelog feed that appears on the lower-right side of the home page. After 0.2.2.0 came out, there was a switch in which bugs were being fixed almost immediately. Overnight it went from fixing TVE 0.2 to fixing TVE 0.3. I think the devs consider TVE 0.2 "good enough", and don't want to waste any more precious time perfecting it when it will be dropped in the near future. TVE 0.3 is getting closer and closer to going out of beta by the day, so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw its inclusion to MP official (and not a separate download) within a few months.

...but that's all speculation. You might try catching them on the irc channel to get the d-l.

Yes, I noticed the same trend - although I think it was mostly Frodo fixing TVE 0.3 ?

That would be a shame - TVE 0.2 still has some serious bugs - particularly for DVB cards - and for most users (single seat) it is perfectly adequate. Going to TVE 0.3 for a single seat seems like an "over kill"?

TVE 0.3 is getting closer and closer to going out of beta by the day, so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw its inclusion to MP official (and not a separate download) within a few months..

That may be true, but I don't see any benefit in moving to TVE 0.3 - not yet anyway.....

I guess I was hoping that one of the other very talented MediaPortal developers would pickup TVE 0.2 and fix the remaining bugs ... ;)

Or, that there is an official announcement that TVE 0.2 is in "de-support mode" and no further development will be done on it ... :(

I agree with Noelix, looks like everything is geared to TVE3 and its problems.

As you, wish i could program and assist.

It does look that whatever problems exist with TVE2, they are here to stay, unless another part of MP effects it, and gets fixed.

    Regards

Yeah I guess the sql database might seem like a bit of an overkill for some people but as far as the tv engine (recording, scheduling, epg etc) should run as a system service, it just makes sense (to seperate the interface with the backend). I think it needs to be thought of as the enxt version not a different product; sure the "old" version still has bugs; windows 2000 still has bugs that will never be fixed. :) Easy for me to say I guess, I'm happily running tvserver with few problems, in fact no problems with the local client, still a couple of glitches with my network client, nothing I can't work around though :) Maybe it's time to take the plunge Taipan? ;-)

Still tvserver3 does not support scheduled wake up the pc, so the tvengine 0.2 is better for single site clients.

Well, I fix the hardware encoder portions of tve 2. So, some of the bugs are getting fixed. If you are actually curious as to what's being worked on, a better method of determining the real changelog is to download an svn copy and look at the logs on there. I would say 90-95% of the commits do not get a comment in the changelog. It is difficult for me to fix bugs for hardware I don't own, since I'm not as talented as Frodo. If you have a list of particular bugs you are interested in, I can take a look.

    Thanks for replying diehard2.

That's the problem, most people only read the mainpage changelog.

Nice to know TVE2 is in good hands and still being supported.

    That is excellent news diehard2 ..... :D

Here are the bugs (listed in Mantis) that keep getting reported in these forums and that frustrate new users of MediaPortal:-

Consecutive recordings (using "Record every time on this channel") on the same channel with the same name, fail. This issue also exists with TVE 0.3

Interference to DVB-T signal causes MP to stutter and then hang

Autotune determines the incorrect TV channel frequency for some DVB-T cards and this one (Autotune determines wrong PID for DVB-AC3) may be related?

If you need my assistance to provide more data (log files, etc) or to do any testing, please let me know. I am very willing to assist in any way that I can ...
