Windows Media Center on Media Portal (1 Viewer)

I'm just wondering... because I spent all day setting up the Live TV features on Media Portal, and they still don't work that great for me (i.e. the guide is my number one needed feature, and it's only "kind of" accurate...).

First off, is it possible to open windows MCE inside of media portal and use it for watching tv?

Alternatively, why can't grabbing TV data be as easy on MP as it is in MCE? I literally just told it my basic info and it did everything else for me - and it's 95% accurate information, too... Even the obscure local channels have correct guide info! Can't we use the same source that Microsoft does?

you can get the epg data from MCE with a plugin... but i don't know what the name is, sry!

mc2xml used to do the migration from mce to to MP, not sure if that project is still working, I know most USA users use schedulesdirect purely because it is so hard to get a decent epg in the U.S

Hmmm I think you're right! I may give that a try, I had another thread here which mentioned that, but I didn't realize that it was actually doing that... thanks.

The big problem is channel naming. MCE gets many right, and MP gets many right, but neither gets them all. For ATSC or QAM, it depends on the content provider, whether they include good (standard) identifying information or not. (Not. So you have to manually assign many channels based on the info you have, and it's sometimes just a guess.) Schedules Direct service does not help this basic problem, as far as I know, but I don't use it.
