I'm about to try MediaPortal again on my HTPC that's running Windows server 2008. Last time it didn't run too well, but with the release of version 1.0 I'm willing to give it another shot.
Has anyone had any good results with this combo?

I also have a dreambox dm800 for watching satellite tv with. I've seen some plugins that support streaming the channels to MediaPortal, but it's a bit unclear if the new(er) dm800 is supported. I'll try it anyways, but if anyone has some tips on how they got it working, please share them.

Please report back your experience with MP 1.0 on Server 2008. I've been running RC2 on Server 2008 without any problems, but tried 1.0 and was unable to stop TV with VMR9.

Your're kidding, aren't you? Or talking about TV-Server running on central servermachine? If you're really talking about Clientmachine, take Vista or XP and avoid all the trouble with missing bda-support etc. on the serverversion (plus saving huge amount of money for cheaper license).

I for one, am not kidding. MP on 2008 Server runs like a dream. bda-support is just a matter of registrering 7-8 dll files. That's it. As license goes, you can download a trial of 2008 Server, that works for 60 days. And you can rearm it 3 times, making it run for 240 days, 100% legal. So actually, you save a license. Only difference between Server 2008 and Vista, is that Server 2008 is not bloated.

... well, for regular use, you do need a license - but back to the topic. Since you obviously have some experience with it, I have some questions (I have set up MP on 2008/64 some month ago and it also worked with the known modifications - but some things I wastn't able to solve):
    1. Did you ever find signed drivers for USB2Serial Adapters for 2008/64?
    2. Do you know a solution for a ramdisk for 2008/64 (also requiring signed drivers)?
    3. Can the TV-Server run in a virtual machine under control of the hypervisor and is the hypervisor capable of giving the HW-access to firewireports (for DireDTV-S2)?
    4. Did you manage to add soundsupport to the hypervisor, enabling sound in the virtual machines?
    Thanks
