    Hello

I've had this case for a long time now and only today I found the answer to most of my problems with the remote control. I had problems with the vfd also but installing windows7, MP 1.1beta and latest SVN took care of those. Just have the minidisplay plugin enabled and the correct settings.

First of all, if you install the irtrans software as an application, it's loaded from the windows startup folder, and it sits in the tray. This program is irtranstrayusb and it uses the commands from apps.cfg in the \program files\irtrans folder. This is all nice and well, until you have to remove stuff from there to not have double key presses in mediaportal. This screws up everything for other programs and in some cases (like mine) the remote won't work when you autostart mediaportal. You have to exit and start mediaportal again to make it work again. I won't even start on the app classnames which are impossible to find. So this clearly is not the way to go.

This leaves installing irtrans as a service. This option is wonderful for mediaportal because everything works like a charm out of the box. Just remember to tell mediaportal to use irtrans in the remote section of configuration. For everything else this option is even more awful than the previous, since, at least for me, nothing else works. Until you install IRSS. It enables you to "catch" commands (remote button pushes) from the irtrans server service and assign those commands meaningful functions for other programs via Translator. Translator is included with IRSS. My original problem was not being able to control Arcsoft TMT3 with the remote when running irtrans as a service, but now I can control it with these (see thumbnails) simple keys I made for uMCEDVDplayer (TMT 10ft GUI). You can assign whatever functions for whatever buttons easily for system wide use or for specified programs. This, in my view, is the way to go.

I didn't see it necessary to install the mediaportal plugins from IRSS since irtrans as a service does a nice job of controlling mediaportal. Otherwise I used default settings when installing IRSS and installed it as a service, too.

For some reason the buttons that start Windows Media Center work when you install irtrans as a service (the only buttons you don't want working when using MP:mad:) and even though the WMC services are disabled by policy in MP 1.1beta, those buttons can induce an annoying message from windows telling you that "this service is disabled py policy". I had to disable a service called UIODetect to stop those messages.

Now everything is working as I've always wanted them to work.

I included some pictures from different settings.

You know what. I gave up on IRTrans, bought a standard MCE remote and receiver from Rosewill for 25 bucks, plugged in the USB cable and out of the box everything works. Hulu Desktop, TMT3. My OrigenAE remote from the S10V case I have even works with the receiver. No more IRTrans for me.

Where is the challenge in that?:D Seriously, I was thinking about doing exactly what you did, but MCE remotes are really hard to find in europe. Setting up IRSS was really easy and it gives me a lot more options for mapping buttons for any application.

    ...and I saved $25:p

I always thought I should have tried IRSS, but never got to it. It did seem a little too easy, when I plugged in the USB receiver and everything just worked. Almost disappointingly easy ;).

I didn't. They are in a separate server machine. I guess you could mount them somehow with a riser card and some metal work, but I wouldn't... ;) There are other low profile cards out there if you absolutely need to put tuner cards in this case.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Have now ordered the as it still seems to be one of the best available cards.
    - I guess I'll be looking into some alternative way of packing it in there - I did have 2 Hard disks +1 SSD drive in there at one point so hopefully this card can sit where the SSD once did :)

It is possible to fit in 2 FloppyDTV's in a S10V, they are mounted on top of the HD, which is mounted upside down. You need a little adapterplate for that but it fits.

    Thanks for the reply Budje.

I am assuming the suggested solution only works if 1 harddisk is installed?
Also can you tell me what exact adapter plates you are referring to? (model, pics etc. Anything useful)

No it is custom made a while ago for complete htpc's sold in the Netherlands by Qmotion in 2008. Sometimes it is possible to buy such a used set (i bought the tuners and plate from such a machine and built it in a new s10v) andfrom ebay/marktplaats.nl but I think there werent many units sold because of the high price 1800 euro.

Indeed you can only use one harddisk.

I will post some pics later.
Here is a dutch videoreview of that machine:
