There is a guy who wrote a software MediaMVP client, and it works quite well. He also provides source code for it. You guys might want to peek under the hood. Just might be the direction for you to take for a client/server architecture.

Is it just me, or is he using graphics from MP?

It's free, but not open source...

Not quite...no client, standalone only. Without the client it's just another htpc package. Now if there were a client...BAM! winner hands down.

I have never used gbpvr but I have heard it's pretty good. Some people seem to like it a lot. I agree with checking out other software to see what could be added to MP. The only problem I see with this product is that it is closed source. It sounds like just 1 guy is writing the core code for the product. If you check the forums, he just released 2.0 on the 8th of this month. 2.0 means his SECOND child. I would assume most of his time will be helping out around the house and support for this product will drop some. I know MP has a long way to go, but it amazes me at the speed the developers are moving. I check out other the forums of other edia centers all the time and it amazes me how often these words come up. MP, by all means is not a perfect product, but I can visualize the future of MP and no other product will come close.

I assume when you say "THEY" you mean the developers? I have been using MP for the past year and there really hasn't been another Media center that has advanced so much in such a little amount of time. One thing you need to understand is that MP is at version 0.2 while other main stream apps are around 4.0. Sure, there are other apps out there but will you ever get the flexibility of an open source project? I really don't think so. Because of MP being open source, there is no possible way for it to become a dinosaur. You joined the forums just 5 days ago, you see the product as it is now. You really have no idea how far MP has really come. Give it a couple months and then you will see.

You're right...I see it as it is now. That's where I see the roadblock. I agree this is an awesome product, but the fact remains the key component is missing. Why do you think so many people are flocking to MythTV and freevo? They want it, badly. Shoot, look at the hauppauge MediaMVP. Almost every supplier is sold out. That should be a wakeup call to ANYONE working on HTPC code.

I'm not knocking the dev's, they have done an awesome job to this point, and it's stable. BUT people are screaming for a client. Just do a search on the forums and see for yourself. If they can't get it here, they'll get it elsewhere.
