Because they want centralized media distribution. Without that they might as well just stick with a Tivo box and be done with it. Heck they already have the codebase for the client...DirectShow. All they need is the .asf wrapper and tada! Stream over UTP to the client.

Right here is the code framework:

hell, put out an alpha...I'd be MORE than willing to test :D

I have never used gbpvr but I have heard it's pretty good. Some people seem to like it a lot. I agree with checking out other software to see what could be added to MP. The only problem I see with this product is that it is closed source. It sounds like just 1 guy is writing the core code for the product. If you check the forums, he just released 2.0 on the 8th of this month. 2.0 means his SECOND child. I would assume most of his time will be helping out around the house and support for this product will drop some. I know MP has a long way to go, but it amazes me at the speed the developers are moving. I check out other the forums of other edia centers all the time and it amazes me how often these words come up. MP, by all means is not a perfect product, but I can visualize the future of MP and no other product will come close.
I initially thought this of GB-PVR, but so far it hasnt turned out to be true. Having only one developer hasnt seemed to slow things down too much. I've been using both since their respective projects started. GB-PVR only had a three month head start on MediaPortal, but over the two years MediaPortal has existed, I'm not even sure its caught up to GB-PVR.

In some areas MediaPortal has a lead: nicer skins, support for old analog cards that dont have MPEG2 encoder hardware.

In some areas they are very similiar: supporting MPEG2 encoder hardware, DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-S, tv guide, season passes, DVD playback, automated transcoding, teletext, fullscreen user interface etc...both buggy

In some areas GB-PVR is way ahead: timeshift and recording engine based on regular .mpg files rather than .dvr-ms, faster, more plugins, recording teletext subtitles, support for thing client device Media MVP, support for specialist hardware like PVR350 tv out, XCARD etc.

I think they are both exciting projects and I'm very glad they both exist. Long may they both continue!

Bah, I always get annoyed when people word things like this. The MP devs are fantastic and do great work. If you want a client so badly and know it is so easy and most of the work is already done then why aren't you doing this yourself. As you say, a lot of people want it, so you'd be a hero if you code it for us all. There's nothing wrong with politely asking, but that's not what you are doing here...

Either be grateful for what they are doing, do it yourself or find something else that meets your needs. Pretty simple choices really.

Oh trust me...I am working on it, but not for MP. The main issue with opensource projects is developers don't listen to what the community wants. Don't you think the dev's at M$ are reading these? Why do you think WMC came into being? They are heading guys like you off at the pass. You start the work, users give you the ideas (which you ignore) and they build it and sell it. Pretty smart of them if you ask me.

You can take offense to whatever I posted, but it was not my intention to get into a pissing match with anyone, but rather to point out the obvious. I pointed to another project to hopefully assist in giving some ideas on how to implement live tv streaming. Apparently this project has absolutely no interest in this or you wouldn't have been offended. Guess I struck a nerve :)

Don't feel alone though...I've been on other project forums trying to get them to see to light as well. Once M$ perfects WMC, it's game over for anyone who isn't streaming live tv anyway. If you think people don't want that capability, just look at how many units Hauppauge has sold of their MediaMVP. They have been sold out for a week now!

Best of luck to you...without live TV streams you're gonna need it!

    Nope, didn't.

    I got my streaming working...how about u?

Gotta love Linux. No wonder Micropoop is the scum of OS's.

Wow, this post more then demonstrates your mentality.

Take your little quest elsewhere if you have nothing constructive to add (which evidently you don't).

Whole problem was I did...but like true nerds, the dev's took offense. I was actually talking with the lead dev about possibly contributing funds, but after the treatment, forget it. No wonder people are selling it on eBay and not giving back.
