Strictly speaking, there probably is some amount of "good fortune" involved if there is any point in time, even a brief one, when a recording files pointed to in the database do not exist. My experience though (this dates back a few versions now) is that the recording file names in the database are only checked at certain times, such as when a user enters the TV client plugin, so if it is done at a time when there is little client activity, the risk is relatively small.
