Cancel that I see that MP isn't closed when I press the "Proceed" button. When MP is closed first, the log capturing starts MP again so now it's capturing. Am now awaiting for the problem to happen again.

My only concern is that when MP gets into this state, I can't close it so the logging won't work properly...oh well I'll find out soon enough...

    The idea is that you:
    1. Close MP and MP Config.
    2. Open the Watchdog tool.
    3. Select option 1 or 2 and click proceed. This will start MP.
    4. Reproduce the problem.
    5. Close MP. This will trigger the Watchdog to collect log files into the regular zip file.

    Hi there here's an update.

After 3 days the problem occurred again. Unfortunately I couldn't close MP as normal, in order to generate the log file.

When MP stops playing the audio, there is no close option as normal. The tool bar that normally drops down doesn't appear. I have to manually switch to the desktop.

When I go to the desktop and try to right click the MP icon in the toolbar in order to try to close MP that way, my confuser makes a warning bing sound. I see no option to close MP when I right click the icon. I only hear the beep sound.

I couldn't see anything open in MP that may have triggered the warning bell. My only recourse was to reboot the laptop. When I went to do that. the laptop told me that MP was still open and stopping the restart. When I went back to the desktop, the aforementioned warning bell happened again. I can only reboot the laptop and force close MP. Sadly the log file isn't created.

I guess I just have to accept the fact that I need to reboot my MP every couple of days.

    Not at all!

Since you have access to the desktop (ie. Windows is not completely locked up), you should be able to close (kill) MP using Windows task manager.

[edit: ...and if that fails (which it shouldn't) you can still use Watchdog option 3 as explained earlier. You just have to manually set the log verbosity to "debug" sometime before the problem happens. Easy as. :)]

Hello again ok I gave this another try. When I rebooted and opened task manager there were two MP entries. One for MP and the other for the Watchdog.

When I right clicked MP and chose to stop the task, I got a pop-up Window saying that MP wasn't responding and that Windows would try to search the Internet for a fix. I cancelled that and then MP closed and the Watchdog generated the number one log file which I have attached for your viewing pleasure.

Hope you can find out what's wrong as this does confirm (at least to me) that MP has crashed and that it won't restart because it has crashed.

    Best wishes,
    hkp

    Thanks for the update.

These log files look good. (y)

In short, to me it looks like the problem is that MP's window manager has locked up. Unfortunately I'm not able to see why at this time.

When the previous video (So You Think You Can Dance S13E11) finished and before you tried to start the final video (Over The Rainbow part 14), the log shows that MP popped up some messages/questions (dialogs). Are you able to tell me what those dialogs said or asked?

Hello again...hmm we didn't see any dialogs pop up. MP is on top of everything so not sure if there was anything popping up underneath. We finished SYTYCD which went back to the SYTYCD video sub directory. I then went to our OTR sub directory and clicked on the video at the top of the programme list. Once the episode was selected & clicked on, we could hear the audio but not see anything; bar the programme list. The video stayed showing the programme list. After about 10 seconds the audio stopped. I couldn't close MP as the drop down menu won't appear. After rebooting the whole system everything was fine once again...until the next time.

I mean dialogs within MP, not from Windows or other programs.

The sequence I see in the log files is as follows...
    1. SYTYCD ends:
    [2016-10-26 19:12:15,637] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - VideoPlayer:ended C:\Users\Media Server\Videos\Dancing\So.You.Think.You.Can.Dance.S13E11.Top.5.HDTV.x264-[NY2].mkv

    2. MP shows the video folder list again:
    [2016-10-26 19:12:16,017] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Windowmanager: Goto previous window
    [2016-10-26 19:12:16,024] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Window: MediaPortal.GUI.Video.GUIVideoFullscreen deinit
    [2016-10-26 19:12:16,032] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - TextureManager: CleanupThumbs()
    [2016-10-26 19:12:16,041] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Window: MediaPortal.GUI.Video.GUIVideoFiles init
    [2016-10-26 19:12:16,050] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - GetFolderSetting: C:\Users\Media Server\Videos\Dancing found.

    3. Four dialogs opened and closed/answered within MP:
    [collapse]

    4. MP sits idle for a minute or so and the screensaver kicks in:

    5. One second later you activate MP again and browse to the OTR folder:
    [collapse]

    6. MP starts playing OTRp14:
    [2016-10-26 19:14:03,954] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - g_Player.Play(C:\Users\Media Server\Videos\Over The Rainbow\Over.The.Rainbow.Part14.WS.PDTV.XviD-CiA.mp4 Video)

    7. MP tries to switch to full screen video (normally happens automatically):
    [2016-10-26 19:14:04,512] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - g_Player: ShowFullScreenWindow
    [2016-10-26 19:14:04,533] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - g_Player: ShowFullScreenWindow switching to fullscreen video
    [2016-10-26 19:15:17,688] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_SYSCOMMAND (SC_SCREENSAVE)

...and that is where it I can see that the window manager has locked up, because the transition to full screen fails.

The last time the window manager did stuff was at step 3 with the dialogs. Therefore it seems like whatever is triggering the problem (the screensaver kicking in???) happened between steps 3 and 7. That's why I asked about what the dialogs were.

    Hi there,

I've deactivated the MP screensaver so that I can use the Windows screensaver. This clicks in after 1 minute. I guess I can try to deactivate the Windows SS and go back to the MP SS to see if this problem happens.

Strange though that after a reboot, MP and the Windows SS get on well for a few days before the aforementioned problem happens again.

So my run down didn't help you remember what the dialogs were about?
