People don't like change, so the easiest response for them is "It's different so it therefore must suck".
When I first heard about Windows 8's new start menu, I wasn't overly impressed either. I then installed the customer preview (in a VM) and didn't think a lot of it (and didn't give it much...
Not true. Windows 8 Enterprise RTM has been out since the start of August and was freely accessible by anyone that created a Microsoft account. You didn't have to be an MSDN subscriber, nor did you have to pay any other subscription fees to access the 90 day trial.
Just because the official...
I can't comment on TV server as I don't use it. As for the main MP installer, no special actions/workarounds were required to make it run on Windows 8. Double clicked the exe and did exactly the same as I've done with Windows XP and 7.
Where'd you get that it won't install/run on Windows 8? MP 1.2.3 is installed and running on this machine and I've quite happily watched my videos using it. I don't use the MP TVServer, but the client most definitely DOES install and run.
Takes me about 8 seconds to open a full DVD movie across the network from my NAS. A single episode of a TV show ripped as DVD format opens within about a second or so.
Quick heads up for those interested.
I had a ticket open with Synology for the DVD playback problem. They've just sent me a link to a DSM update that fixes the issue (for me anyway).
I assume it'll be released to the general populus soon, but if you don't want to wait, open a ticket here...
Just to add, I've just installed MP2 Alpha just to have a look. Using that version, I have no problems at all playing my DVDs from the NAS, although after using MP1 for so long, navigating around MP2 was very different :)
Interesting. I just updated to the latest DSM too and now can't play DVDs either. It hadn't even occurred to me that there was a correlation between the two.
Image on left is MePo. The subtitle entries seem to be the difference between the two.
What NAS problem? I don't have any problems with my NAS :) You seem rather fixated on it however ...
If you've no idea what service you're stopping, you shouldn't be stopping it ... period! You've obviously got some code in there telling it to stop these TV services. I'm no developer, but I'm sure there must be some checks that can be put in that log what you're stopping and restart them...
