Strangely, I had similar problems until I installed the .NET framework 1.1 in addition to the 2.0, that cleared things up a bit.

For me just replacing the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml with one from a working copy was not enough. I only have the problem when doing a clean install.

My solution: First install MediaPortal 0.2, complete the configuration, do a uninstall followed by the install of 0.2.1

I had performed what was your solution, but it didn't help in my case. It was the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file which had many changes and it didn't allow the video to appear. The older version (0.2.0.4) of that file caused it to fix my system.

It almost seems like you may not have been in a similar situation. Because I had a fully working system (using version 0.2.0.4) and then the uninstall (of the version 0.2.0.4) and install of version 0.2.1.0 caused the problem. I didn't save any settings from the 0.2.0.4 that I tried to use, other than the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file.

    You said "unfortunately"

But isn't that a good thing? I mean fixing more than one user?
