MediaPortal Version: 0.2.3 rc3
Windows Version: Vista

First, I'm quite sure that I'm running the rc3 version, as any changes to the config pages take effect within the main MP app. However, the splash screen reads 0.2.2 whereas the splash screen of the config reads 0.2.3 rc3.

That said, whenever closing out the config section, I receive an error stating that the DLL responsible for reading the plugins cannot be read. I've started the config both as an admin and a user - same thing.

I'm not sure whether the above slight inconenience is related to my 'skin' problem, but whenever I start MP, I receive an error within a red box indicating that the current skin is outdated and blah blah shouldn't be used with the current version of MP.

I have the latest versions of all skins, and further, when I revert to the default skin (wide version), I receive the same error. Does the error result whenever there is at least one problematic skin in the skins folder?

FWIW, I have Blue2wide, Core, Foofaraw, GreyMP, Replicant, SpinSave revolve, xface, revision.

If the splashscreen says 0.2.2, then it is 0.2.2. Not calling you a liar ;) but somewhere your move to 0.2.3 must have gone wrong.

If I were in your case, I would uninstall MediaPortal from the control panel. Then either delete the whole MediaPortal directory, or move it to a different location, like OldMediaPortal, just to be sure it does not interfere, but at the same time allowing you to keep all your "stuff" (plugins, configuration, etc).

Then install using the RC3 and then apply SVN versions if you want to.

Thanks, I installed RC3 over 0.2.2. Indeed, the old version may have been used with new config. Seems it may be a good idea to do a complete uninstall then in the future.

What can be kept over from previous installations when updating? Dbases, configs or both? I rescanned the music, as it seems the db structure was re-worked. Anything else you know of?

Database folder can be kept. If you have thumbs for either movies or music, make sure you keep your thumbs folder. You might even try to keep your mediaportal.xml file if you are too lazy to reconfigure all.

But a word of warning is in place. The thumbs will certainly not break anything. The databases, probably not. The mediaportal.xml probably might. So try your new install first, then copy over the thumbs, then the database and only in last moment if you feel brave the mediaportal.xml
