Hi,

can anybody please confirm this.
When I disable the quality control, MediaPortal always uses a constant bitrate of 5000 (PVR150 & PVR350).
When I enable it, MediaPortal always uses a variable Bitrate between 8000 and 12000, but it doesn't matter which default quality I select (Hauppauge PVR 150).

For my Hauppauge PVR350, no bitrate is set at all when I enable it. This is not to bad because I can set whatever I want.

    Hi,

i reported this already to DMAN via Mail. Hopefully I did not nag him. ;)

What i have recognized so far:

    PVR 150:
    - quality control works, if i override the standard setting "medium" for the recording manually to "medium".

    PVR 350:
    - control does not work at all. MP uses at least 8000 KBit/s. Was 12000 on one testing.

I will try to do some more tests. Also turning control off, did not test this one, yet.

    Flip.

    Hi,

ok. Here come the "big" test results.

    Setup
    - MP 0.2RC2 with mediaportal-cvs-01-17-2006--01-06.rar
    - PVR 350 and 150 with drivers from SHSPVR
    - http://www.shspvr.com/smf/index.php?topic=9027.0
    - installed only drivers and remote software, no other TV application

    1) Without Quality Control
    - Recording 40 minutes

    - PVR 350: ~13000 KBit/s
    - PVR 150: ~5500 KBit/s

    2) With Quality Control
    - Set "medium" as standard in Setup->Television for both cards
    - Recording 30 minutes

    a) leave recording on "standard"
    - PVR 350: ~13000 KBit/s
    - PVR 150: ~8500 KBit/s

    b) set recording manual on "medium"
    - PVR 350: ~13000 KBit/s
    - PVR 150: ~2400 KBit/s

So, quality settings seem only to work for the PVR 150 when manually set for each recording within MP.

    Logs:
    Case 1)
    Case 2a) and 2b)

    Hi,

you asked for it! Here comes some maths... ;)

Bitrate [KiloBit / Second] = Filesize [KiloBit] / Fileduration [Seconds]

    Filesize [KiloBit] = Filesize [GigaByte] x 1024 x 1024 x 8
    Fileduration [Seconds] = Fileduration [Minutes] x 60

    Example:
    Size: 1.91 GigaByte
    Duration: 110 Minutes

    Filesize [KiloBit] = 1.91 x 1024 x 1024 x 8 = 16022241.28
    Fileduration [Seconds] = 110 x 60 = 6600

    Bitrate = 16022241.28 [Bits] / 6600 [Seconds] = 2427.61 [KBit/s]

Thanks for your math lesson :D
I have been looking for a tool that could determine the bitrate of dvr-ms files, but I couldn't find anything like this.
Anyway do you know if this is fixed yet?
    Thanks!

    Hi

What program determines the Bit rate for recording when using a PVR 350: MP or Hauppauge_tweaker?

When I make a recording I get something about 4Mbps no matter what I do. If I change the setting in the configuration.exe for MP it does not seem to have any effect on my recordings. Also when I run Hauppauge_tweaker it always shows 4Mbps. I can change the 4Mbps in Hauppauge_tweaker but next time a reboot the setting is back to 4Mbps. isn’t there anywhere I can set the Mbps to a higher value than 4Mbps that also works after a reboot?

    Best regards
    Martin

    Hi,

ok. I did find some time to do tests with the latest CVS (mediaportal-cvs-02-19-2006--01-06.rar).

    PVR 150
Quality control for the PVR 150 seems to work now. Leaving the recording settings on standard or setting it explicitly to "medium" produced files with the correct bitrates.

    PVR 350
Still does not work. Very strange results. I checked the settings with the hauppauge tweaker before running the recordings. They were set to constant 4 MBit.

    1) Running a recording with standard settings (should be medium) did not take effect. The recording had a bitrate of 4 MBit.

    2) Running a recording with explicit settings on medium did results in a bitrate of 13 MBit! After the recording a took a look into the settings with the hauppauge tuner. Settings were:
    Variable
    Average: 12.5 Mbit!
    Peak: 4 MBit!

So MP does seem to make a false entry into the Average settings!?! :?

    HTH, Flip.
