Hi trelm249,
no reason to bei "chastised and penitent" ;); I just wanted to tell you that we cant get much help with little information. In fact you still should "edit system configuration" in your "control panel" of the forum to let people now more about your system. This helps.

To your problem: I am not really a specialist, but what I see in your logs looks exactly like the problem of weissolo:
TVHome: Error in Reload - The database backend (provider SQLServer) could not be reached.
Also, as you upgraded from RC2, it could be the above described problem with the SQL-exception looking for the wrong database.

Are you able to connect to the server if you start the client on your server machine? If no, you might have a problem with your SQL-security settings. If yes, I still think its a firewall issue. Once there was a post with a firewall function of the software of a graphics card (dont find it right now).

Good luck!

    Hi,

good to hear that its the firewall; but, I think you only looked to the firewall (exceptions) of MediaPortal. In my case it was the expception for the SQL server (and it looks like this is your problem also, see your first post "The database backend (provider SQLServer) could not be reached".

Just check if the exception in the firewall really looks to the right database; I think the installer has a problem if there is another database already and always looks to the first one. At least, this was the case when it did not work on my system. There is an existing database from another application (MSSQL.1), and the exception was created by the installer only for this one.

So I had to add the exception for the MSSQL.2 (which is the database for the TVserver) manually.

    Good luck!

    Yes,
    it was the sqlservr.exe
But it was in the MSSQL.1 folder.

    I made a bugreport: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...ll-not-configured-correctly-47439/#post320904

    :THX:

I still don't have RC3 client connecting to an RC3 TV Server. I removed RC2 from both and installed RC3 on both. I have gone back and uninstalled Mediaportal from both and then removed SQLServer Express from both. Then did advanced installs of RC3 on both with a dedicated TV server on one and a Client on the other. There are no firewalls enabled on either.

This is quite frustrating. I guess next is to wipe the drives and reinstall XP Pro on both again.

    Hi Trelm,

I cannot imagine that it is necessary to reinstall XP. What I read in your post (if I read right), you did not install the client on your server machine. I would do that. If you do, you can do the suggested check of my last post

"Are you able to connect to the server if you start the client on your server machine?"

Next question: Can you do a preview of your channels on the server?

And, again, your log files are missing. ;)

It is a problem of firewall. Have you tried to disable Firewall at Server and Client? What happens?
And wait for starting MP long eneaugh to give TV-Service time be fully established.
    Check if TV-Service is running.

I did have the client loaded on the server previously and it connected locally. I should have mentioned that. It was a great suggestion for testing the server config. Thanks for it. I had not done that until you had mentioned it AEN.

The firewall is disabled on the dedicated TV server. The firewall is disabled on the Client machine. I checked that right away. Again thanks for the suggestion.

Obviously blowing away the existing Windows install is the sledgehammer approach but wiping MediaPortal and SQL Server Express did not change the results.

BTW, there are no other firewalls between the two machines on the LAN.

    Hi Trelm,

    do I understand you right:

    - Right now, you do have the client installed on the server machine, and you get a connection to the Tvserver, i.e. you can watch TV locally?

And, please provide your actual logs again!

Do you have a DNS running? In my experiences it was neccessary to have a properly DNS setup in the network.
