I have some .avi files in XVID format that MediaPortal refuses to play. It pops up a window saying unable to play.

However they will play in Windows Media Play on the same PC to the codecs needed are definitely there.

According to gSpot the files are: "XviD Dev ver. 25-Mar-03" with 0x0055 "MPEG-1 Layer 3 audio".

In MediaPortal config the decoder for DIVX and XVID is set to LAVF like nearly all the other formats (probably the default settings as I can't remember ever adjusting them).

How do I start troubleshooting this problem?

I've created the log files. Is it OK to continue using this thread?

Do you have any codec packs installed or just LAV Filters?

Can you try to play the file from a local HDD? As far as I see your trying to play it from a network share?
    Thanks!

When I first got the problem I tried installing the XVID codec pack and setting that as the decoder for DivX and XVid - but it made no difference. So the problem was there without any extra codec packs.
