The real minimum GPU for smooth MP is an AGP ATI 9500pro (4 pipe) running on an AGP2x bus.

Anything above this and you shuld have no problems. As for NV GPU, if I remember correctly the ATI 9700 series was so good that NV needed to be the next generation above this to match performance.

Explain to me the differences between DX9 rendering and Overlay. DX9 is mostly hardware based right?

Is there a reason why all other HTPC frontends use overlay and MP uses DX9? I'm just curious as what the advantages are. It pains me that this doesnt happen with the others. Sadly, I don't really like any of the others, lol.

MP uses VMR9 or EVR. With those video renderers its possible to mix the video content to the GUI just like the video would be a texture itself.
