I have installed Powerstrip and i have tried making a custom resolution of 1776x1000, reboot, and run that resolution and my tv goes black, no picture. I'm thinking its because i have no idea what these settings in Powerstrip mean:

1)Front Porch
2)Sync Width
3)Back Porch
4)Polarity

I have no idea what these do.

I do understand the Refresh Rate should be 60hz, but when i check the EDID for my tv it says Horizontal Refresh Rate should be 46khz Horizontal and 61Khz Vertical , however when i adjust the Refresh rate in powerstrip , i cannot adjust the horizontal or vertical refresh rate separately, they move up and down together no matter which one i select up or down.

I have moved to this new HTPC with MP on it from an Xbox with XBMC in which would scale perfectly and automatically. This is getting annoying..

That is an odd resolution to set - 1080i is usually 1920 x 1080. Which could explain why your Sony screen goes black.

Why are you trying to set a resolution of 1776x1000 ?

the tv is a 46" Sony VVega rear Projection CRT. Its advertised to do 1080i, but when i set the resolution to 1920x1080 its too big by an inch or so across the whole screen. So i wanted to set a lower resolution to fill the screen.

I've previously tried in MP, TV scaling under settings, since i am shrinking the screen it didn't help me. Which is why i installed Powerstripe, to add a new resolution that fits my screen perfectly.

OK, your TV is "overscanning" by an inch - changing the resolution will not affect the overscan.

You either have to reduce the overscan in the TV itself (if that is possible with the Sony), or just accept it...:(
