Hmm, wait a minute, can you now accelerate .mkv h264 files with these cards WITHOUT that 20fps bug that used to be a showstopper? I'll be doomed (pun intended) but I can't find the thread on doom9 right now that discussed this.

Could you guys please confirm this (what GPU and driver config) and make really sure it works (cause them I'm buying one too ;-))

Yeah, if you have any kind of video postprocessing outside of the PowerDVD decoder, you lose all hardware acceleration and decoding is done fully by your CPU.

This is the case for any decoder that is GPU accelerated (independent of make and codec -- Cyberlink, WinDVD, MPEG2, H264, etc).

New hardware in, playback seems flawless now (but I havent yet taken the PC home to run @ 1920x1080 - cant on the little monitor I have here for testing) cpu usage around 4-30%

Annoyingly tho some .MKV's dont play (yet do in MPC) - but am going to get to the bottom of that asap.

    for the record:

Asus P5LD2-X/1333 motherboard - Using HD SPDIF onboard audio
    Core2Duo E6850 3ghz
    1gb DDR2 667mhz
    ATI HD2600Pro
    1x300gb IDE, 1x400gb SATA-II

+Thermaltake Bach case + MCE remote, Win XP Pro sp2. FFDShow latest tryout + PowerDVD7 + Haali Mediasplitter

If they play in MPC but not in MP you should get CCCP if you don't already have it and change the settings a bit to either not select ffdshow for x264 or disable haali splitter for some files. Worked for me.

I have a 2.1 Dual core, and it's way too slow for 1080p. 720p is no problem with since 1080p has 225% more pixels it's too much for my little cpu.

this this might need a new topic.. but still got this issue with MKV files. Some play, some dont. Uninstallation of all codecs, then installation of CCCP allowed the same files that played before to play in MP, but the ones that didnt, still didnt AND wouldnt play anymore at all in MPC.

Put K-lite mega on, troublesome files play in MPC again, but still not in MP.

What codec do you use? mvk file only play if I use ffdshow as the postproccessor. I still have to use Nvidia for mpeg2 and powerdvd for mpeg4.
