Hello, i was wondering if i could load two or more instances of mediaportal and run them on individual monitors from one main pc.

the concept is that i can have a main client in the loft of my house and hdmi drop down to 3x bedrooms. and 1x to the bathroom

this then can always be on and save a fortune in setup costs.

thankyou

I can see how, in terms of the application itself, MP could be developed to run in this way - but then you've got other practical issues (like remote control, etc.) which would be far more difficult to overcome.

ukscarface - I would have thought that if you're going to the trouble (and cost) of installing a monitor in your bathroom !!! then the extra cost for just some fairly basic PCs to run MediaPortal in each of the other rooms is not likely to be that much. (ie. you don't need super-powerful PCs to just run the MP client)

Cheers,
Craig

did you consider runing it in a virtual machine or something like that?

but yes, the fact that you would have to overcome the issue of 2 seperate controls would make it impractical.

better off doing clone displays and cloning the audio, and then have an IR transmitter, transmit back to the main system.

Interesting concept, I had considered something similar but with smaller 7inch touch screen displays all around the house even on the fridge (for grocery lists and watching tv while working in the kitchen). Then having home automation plugin to control lights, power points even voice activated controls. So the solution to your problem would be mine. :D

multi remotes wouldn't be a problem. I use rf x10 ones and can set and select which of 16 channels it responds to in mediaportal config. So 3 remotes could be set to transmit on diff channels and each mp instance set in config which channel to respond to. I do this already though use 2 revo3610's as the clients but all 3 machines do use the same remotes just on diff chans. Revo's only use about 20 watts (tested them with a meter) and can be set to sleep in between use.
