hey guys,
After a bit of hard work and googling i have finally got a fully working htpc running mediaportal
Well almost fully, something i did broke dvd playback and i managed to break whatever i had done to get it to wake to record but i'm going to reinstall to have a clean systen and then i should be able to fix everything if i can remember how i did it in the first place lol... anywayz...
my two questions are:
1) I dont have access always on internet access on my htpc but i can get internet whilst i am setting it up and i have a large collection of ripped dvds on my hdd. I have seen an option to download infor for the films from imdb in the config which i did and worked but i dont see the info in mp when browsing the films all the thing such as year, genre etc... are blank... what i want to know is, is there a way to just add the info myself such as you can do in vmc as i have an number of xml files in the dvd folders with movie info, anyway to do this?
2) Also related to dvds is some of the ripped dvds are tv series such as family guy and I wanted to know if the tv series plugin can be used to catalogue these dvds so they dont appear with my movies?
No biggie if neither if these are possible but it would be nice...

no one... not bothered about the tv series thing now just the dvd info....

In config, you can go to Movies->Database, then go to the Editor tab. You can edit or add movie information right there. I add the movie title, click Find (which queries the information from IMDB), and then edit it to be what I want it to be.

I went around and around on this. Your tastes may vary, but I'll tell you what I used to do, and what I do now.

Originally, I used DVD Shrink to combine all the discs of a series into a single ISO. I removed all the menus et al, and left just the episodes. Each season would be a single ISO, then I would add a movie to the database (as described above) for each season. So my movie list would have "Futurama (Seas 1)", "Futurama (Seas 2)", etc. This worked pretty well, really.

Then I found the TV Series plugin. I LOVE the TV Series plugin. I went to every TV Series ISO I had, opened the ISO in DVD Shrink, and saved EACH EPISODE as a folder. So Futurama/01x01 would have the vob and ifo for the first episode. It was a lot of work to break up the DVDs like that, but, in my opinion, well worth it, just because the TV Series plugin is that cool. (After I had them set up this way, of course, I deleted the seasons from the My Videos database through the editor.)

great idea about the tv series plugin, i have just finished seperating all my dvd into episodes but i cant get tv series plugin to recognise them when it scans the folder... they are saved in dvd format eg ifo etc...

For TV Series I'd ask over in the TV Series plugin forum. There are very knowledgable people there.

Make sure you list your directory structure and file names (not all, just a few) this will help whoever create for you an adequate parsing string.
