Hi guys

Just wanted to hear if any of you have found a way of making 2 moving pictures.

I intent to use the second one for concerts, i have quite a collection, and it is quite annoing browsing them while wanting to watch a movie.

i know that installing it twice is impossible, but a name change here and there should be possible, can anyone help me in the right direction ?

Thanks in advance

Henrik

Sorry Henrik, this is not possible without recompiling the code and making a signifigant number of modifications in the process. And for this to seamlessly work without any user complications some changes would need to be made to MediaPortal itself. The changes have actually already been coded and submitted to the MediaPortal guys as a patch but it will probably not go in until after MediaPortal 1.1 Final.

What you could do though is setup a custom menu category for your concerts and filter out concerts from all your other categories. If you are using Moving Pictures 1.0 the movies menu is completely customizable. Sorry there is not a good guide for this yet, I was planning on putting together a guide today actually but ended up spending all Saturday with family. :p It is hopefully fairly strait forward though, to get started go into the Config, click the GUI Settings tab and then click the "Define Movie Categories" button.

Briefly what you will want to do is:

  1. Add your concerts folder as a separate import path. (If you change your mind about this approach later, just remove this and all related videos will be removed from Moving Pictures).
  2. Open the "Defien Movie Categories" window.
  3. Add a new menu item at the top level named "Concerts".
  4. Highlight the new category and click "Add Filter" on the right.
  5. Create a filter for this category that will cause only concerts to show up. Probably the easiest would be something like "Full path starts with ..."
  6. Add a filter to all other top level categories to exclude concerts. Something like "Full path doesn't start with..."

I hope this helps.

Hi Fforde

Thanks for your quick reply.

Thanks again

The category system is very easy once you dabble around in it for a bit. You'll understand exactly what fforde was describing once you get in there. You can use the categories to do a huge range of filtering options.

I have since created the full guide on the wiki. It is not complete yet, i still need to write the page on filters, but it should be enough to get people started if the above explaination is not good enough.

Thank you! I've been wanting to this for a long time - mainly to separate out the movies for the kids and our movies. I don't want the kids to see violent/bloody fan art of adult rated movies let alone have them accidentally playing them!

:D

EDIT: I couldn't get the filters to work on the Genre (the menu category did not appear) but it did work with the path filter...

Also, is it MP 1.1 RC5 and MovingPictures (1.0.4) or is it the menu configuration that has changed the menus? Now the menu options is shifted from the middle to the left.

You should try using the parental controls. When enabled you can define a subset of movies that are displayed by default (say everything rated G and PG). To see the rest you will need to enter the parental controls password. Look at the bottom of the GUI Settings tab of the configuration screen.

Cheers. I've now seen the parental control options - nice to see it exists.

I wasn't looking for parental controls (as my kid is not old enough to want to watch any thing dodgy, yet!) But I was definitely looking for options to separate the movies into distinctive sections, which this has allowed! Thanks again!
