5.1 Sound (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

Can you tell me if there is something I have to install, a codec or software, to output 5.1 sound from my HTPC running media portal?

I will have an AV Reciever which decodes DTS and Dolby etc...and plug my PC into this, and then to the 5.1 speakers.

What audio output are you using from your computer?

I have realtek HD 7.1 on board sound. It has an optical out, which i presume is the best to use

You will need change any audio settings you can find to SPDIF passthrough. There should be one for your card in the control panel under sound or whatever config program it uses. There will also be those settings for the audio codecs in MP. All you want to do is pass the raw sound to your external decoder and let it do all the work.
