    Hi,

Until now I've been using MP0.2.2.0 and have been very pleased with it but since the new version is out I would like to install it with the TV-server. There are a few things though which are not clear to me so I would appreciate if this could be clarified by the specialists out there.

    1) am I interpreting it right that by using the TV-server, I can watch/record multiple channels at the same time with my PVR-350?
    2) what's the practical difference between using Microsoft SQL or MySQL, so in terms of (dis)advantages between them?
    3) is there a way to re-use my lyrics, album coverart?

I also installed MP for a friend who only has 1 pc so it's also used by his wife and kids for usual browsing, mailing, .... stuff. There are multiple XP user accounts on it and I had created an extra 'MP' account in which several services, anti-virus, themes, drivers, ... are not loaded but the main problem is when they are using the pc on another account then for MP, scheduled programs were not recording - which makes sense of course.

    4) am I seeing it right that this problem is solved by using the TV-server?

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers!
    P.

Hi Peter, i can answer no. 1 for you, the answer is no with a PVR 350, you would require a DVB-S (or possibly DVB-T) card as the signal these recieve has multiple broadcasts on a stream.

    Cheers

The advantage of using MySQL was originally a smaller memory footprint, this has now changed as you can limit the amount of memory used by MSSQL. no particular like\dislike for either now, just using mySQL out of habit.

I also installed MP for a friend who only has 1 pc so it's also used by his wife and kids for usual browsing, mailing, .... stuff. If you install TVServer for all users, it will record any scheduled programs, whether that user has access to MP or not, as long as they do not powerdown the pc, TVservice monitor is good to keep track of what is happening, ie idle, recording etc.

Guess I'm gonna use MySQL then.
What do you mean by 'installing for all users'?
Does the Tv-server have that typical option during installation to install for the current user only or for all xp accounts?
Isn't it a service which runs anyway regardless of which account is active or am I seeing it wrong?

One question still stands: is there a way to re-use my lyrics, album coverart?
    Anyone?

    Tnx!

I cannot remember seeing such an option during installation. TV-Service is a service ran as every other service regardless of any user logged in.

I never used these functions. After downloading and installing the Lyrics plugin there are two more db files inside the "database" folder named "LyricsDatabaseV2.db" and "LyricsMarkedDatabaseV2.db". These should contain your Lyrics database. Download for Album coverart is broken atm so I cannot test it but have a look for a respective database in the "database" folder as well.

no that does not work with analog, because there is only one TV-Channel per frequnce.
on dvb (digital video broadcast) you have on transponder (frequence) which gets tuned and this then contains multiple channels.

    2) what's the practical difference between using Microsoft SQL or MySQL, so in terms of (dis)advantages between them?
when you read the changelog, then you will see that MySQL support breaks from time to time.
surely thats a fault from the developer who did the change, but all developers use MS SQL, so its unlikely that something breaks there because that would be very obvious for the dev then.

    4) am I seeing it right that this problem is solved by using the TV-server?
since the TV-Server is a windows service, it doesnt matter which user (or any) is logged in.
it is always running in the background.

Already thank you for clearing up the rest!

Regarding SQL: I'm not familiar at all with it so I'm trying to get a better idea about it.
Based on what you're writing 'working flawlessly' MS SQL seems to be the better choice, would you based on that recommend to go that path?
